  • DBF PhD student Vincent Wolff won the Best Doctoral Paper Award at the SFI Research Days 2022 for his research on “Financial Transaction Taxes, Trader Composition and Market Quality”. Well done!
  • DBF PhD student Linda Isabella Hain received "Candoc" grant. Candoc funding goes toward promising young academics who would like to work on an excellent PhD thesis at the University of Zurich, and we are excited for Linda! Congratulations!
  • Gazi Kabas wins the FIRM Research Award 2022 with his PhD thesis "Essays on Household Finance and Empirical Banking". Congratulations!
  • Congratulations to PhD candidate Philip Berntsen. He won the "Best Paper Award" on joint work with Prof. Markus Leippold on "The monetary benefit of tokenizing renewable energy" at the 4th International FinTech, InsurTech & Blockchain Forum.
  • Congratulations to our PhD students Gianluca De Nard and Michele Pelli. Gianluca won a FAN Fellowship to support his post-doctoral research, and Michele was successful with a FAN grant to fund his research stay abroad. Congratulations to both of them!
  • Congratulations to Philipp Lentner who defended his thesis in August 2021. He will join WU Vienna (Austria) on October 1st as an Assistant Professor.
    Yushi Peng will join the London School of Economics (UK) as a Postdoctoral Researcher, with a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation. Congratulations! We wish them both the best of success in their future endeavors!

  • Our first-ever PhD retreat took place from 13-14 September 2021 in Laax, GR! We had a busy program, discussing research, taking a nice hike with a great view over the Rhein valley and some interesting input by invited speakers.
  • Proud to announce that SFI PhD Student Winta Beyene has won a SNSF doc.CH grant to fund her PhD research. Her research interest covers the impact of climate change on the financial system and household finance. Currently, her work mainly focuses on the impact of climate change risks on credit markets. SNSF Doc.CH scholarships fund the dissertations for the most promising young researchers in Switzerland.
  • SFI PhD Student Alexandra Matyunina has been awarded the Swiss National Science Foundation’s Doc.CH grant. The grant funds promising young researchers during their PhD dissertation. Alexandra will investigate the benefits of bank lending specialization in economic development and her main advisor is Prof. Steven Ongena. Congratulations!
  • Our PhD Candidates Gianluca de Nard, Yushi Peng and Gazi Kabas have each won a "Candoc" grant for their proposed research projects. Candoc funding goes toward promising young academics who would like to work on an excellent PhD thesis at the University of Zurich, and we are excited for our junior researchers! Congratulations!
